Message from the Head of the Department
The Department of Science and Technology was established in 2005 and has been offering a SLQF 6 degree in Science and Technology since 2006. It aims to craft competent and skillful graduates with specialized knowledge and skills in Science and Technology and value addition to national resources. The Department of Science and Technology offers BTech(ScienceTec) degree which aims to develop knowledge, values, conceptual understanding and skills in students, necessary for a range of careers in the Science and Technology field. The dynamic curriculum of the degree comprises course units including subjects with theoretical knowledge and practical aspects, aiming industrial demand.
The academics of the department comprises personnel specialized in diverse areas in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Mechatronics, and Material Sciences. This set of diverse knowledge and skills in a single department, is unique to the State University system in Sri Lanka. Over the past ten years the department has evolved into a mature establishment with a rich academic staff profile and modern laboratory facilities. The Department of Science and Technology had only two elementary laboratories at the inception and currently possesses fourteen well-equipped in-house laboratories including an advanced research laboratory with the state-of-the-art technology to conduct practical sessions and research activities of both degree programmes and postgraduate students under the umbrella of the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
