IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) is one of the largest international professional organizations dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists, and inspiring women around the world to follow their academic interest in a career related with engineering. Taking these concerns into account, IEEE UWU Student Branch took steps to initiate the WIE affinity group. It was founded under the presidency of Anusha Gamlath and Dilshika Kavishani was the secretary, who helped in the task. Dr. L.K. Narangammana received the responsibility to guide the amateur team towards a greater height. The Executive Committee of the IEEE UWU Student Branch was helping the newly established team, since its inception with the mentorship of Prof. Sisira Ediriweera, Dr. L.K. Narangammana and Mr. Vajira Thambawita. WIE has achieved numerous goals and the most prominent event among them was the first “women only” hackathon which was held on 21st July 2017 in university premises.Under the guidance of the current student counselor Ms. S.D.H.S. Wickramarathne, newly appointed committee headed by the chair, Hasini Madhuwanthi and Sayuri Rathnayake as the secretary for the year 2019/2020 have planned to extend our activities to diverse fields, which our young members will inspire from and to give a hand of support to the community as well and hoped to extend our CSR activities to the community. Furthermore, activities such as SHECODERess , Little Hopes, Hands in Hands and Successo were organized.
