IEEE was initiated in 2015 at Uva Wellassa University student branch is a key technological society governed under the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Currently, one affinity group; Women in Engineering affinity group serves for the female undergraduates under this student branch. Dr. K.W.S.N.Kumari is the current Student Counselor of IEEE Uva Wellassa University student branch where as Ms.S.D.H.S. Wickramarathne is the current Student Counselor of WIE Affinity group of IEEE Uva Wellassa University student branch. At present as a student branch, successfully accomplished over 80 IEEE international membership count. IEEE Uva Wellassa University student branch awarded for the Highest Membership Retention Award 2019 recently by the IEEE Sri Lanka Section and selected to receive funds from R10 Joint Student Branch Initiative Fund 2019. As an IEEE student branch, the main aim is to serve the member undergraduates and the outside community at the level best for their betterment. To achieve this, student branch conduct technical workshops, competitions, leadership development sessions for the members and conduct CSR projects to support for the outside community.
